In Matthew 17, we find Jesus addressing His disciples. They had attempted to cast out a demon and failed. This failure revealed a critical lesson on faith. The disciples asked Jesus privately why they could not drive it out, and He responded, explaining that their lack of faith was the issue. Here, Jesus was not speaking to a general crowd but to his inner circle, those who walked with Him and had already witnessed numerous miracles. Their struggle illustrated a timeless issue: even those who follow Christ closely sometimes grapple with doubt.
The situation in Mark 11:23 occurs during Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem, where He curses a fig tree and uses it as an object lesson to teach about the efficacy of faith. In both instances, Jesus speaks directly to the power of prayer and belief, emphasizing an unwavering trust in God.

When Jesus instructs us to speak to these "mountains," He calls us to exercise authority in His name. This recalls Genesis 1:26-28, where humanity is given dominion over creation.
