“Radical Steps to Purity” centers on one of the most searching demands Jesus ever made of His disciples.
Let us look at what the Word of God says:
> “If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away.
> It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
> And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away.
> It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.”
> — Matthew 5:29–30
Alongside this, the song rightly links Jesus’ words with the apostolic commands:
> “Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
> Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?
> You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.
> So glorify God in your body.”
> — 1 Corinthians 6:18–20
> “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
> — Colossians 3:2
> “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”
> — Colossians 3:5
The theme is unmistakable:
Purity is not optional, and dealing with sin—especially sexual sin—requires radical, decisive action. Jesus exposes the deadly nature of sin and demands that we value eternal destiny above temporary comfort.
This teaching is not for the casual believer. It is for those who are serious about holiness, deliverance, and walking in the fear of the Lord.

Matthew 5:29–30 comes from the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7), where Jesus sets forth the charter of His Kingdom. He is not speaking to pagans, but to His disciples and the crowds following Him—people already interested in God and the Law.
In Matthew 5:27–28, Jesus has just addressed adultery:
> “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
> But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
