For this message the Holy Spirit has already selected our text. It is not a suggestion. It is a proclamation. It is a verdict from the court of heaven.
> “For I am convinced that neither death nor life,
> neither angels nor demons,
> neither the present nor the future,
> nor any powers,
> neither height nor depth,
> nor anything else in all creation,
> will be able to separate us
> from the love of God
> that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
> — Romans 8:38–39 (NIV)
The song “Unbreakable Love” simply sings back to God what He has already spoken in His Word:
> “Nothing can separate us
> from the love of God
> in Christ Jesus our Lord.
> No height, no depth,
> no power, no thing—
> His love holds us forever.”
The central theme is this:
The love of God, once we are in Christ Jesus, is absolutely unbreakable and absolutely victorious over every hostile force in the universe.
Many believers repeat this verse, but few are *convinced* as Paul was. Emotional ups and downs, spiritual attack, fear of failure, fear of death, fear of the future—these often speak louder than the Word of God in our hearts. The Holy Spirit gave Romans 8:38-39 to confront every one of these fears with a final, non-negotiable declaration:
Nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Our task is not to feel this is true, but to believe this is true, confess it, and live in the power of it.

These words stand at the summit of Romans chapter 8. To understand their force, we must see where they come from.
### Who is speaking?
The speaker is the apostle Paul. He writes not as a theorist, but as a man who has faced more pressure, persecution, and demonic opposition than most of us will ever encounter. He has been stoned, beaten, imprisoned, shipwrecked, betrayed. Yet he says:
> “For I am convinced…” (Romans 8:38)
This is not shallow optimism. This is a settled conviction forged in suffering.
### Where does this fit in Romans?
Romans 8 is the high point of Paul’s explanation of the gospel. Notice the progression:
Romans 8 begins with:
> “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)
And it ends with:
> “Nothing… will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:39)
No condemnation at the start. No separation at the end. Between those two truths is the total security of the believer who is in Christ and walking according to the Spirit.
### The immediate context
Just before our verses, Paul writes:
> “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
> He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
> Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.
> Who then is the one who condemns? No one.
> Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
