The central theme of the song "Rise and Roar" is spiritual boldness and the overcoming power of God through every battle we face. We find a profound resonance of this in the scripture found in Isaiah 40:31:
*"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."*
Here, we are called to rise beyond human limitation through reliance on God, to stand stronger, and to roar with the strength that He provides.
Isaiah 40 is a passage of comfort delivered by the prophet Isaiah to the people of Israel. At a time when they faced captivity and oppression, it served as a proclamation of hope and divine strength. God's people were in the throes of Babylonian captivity, a shadow that seemed impossible to escape. Yet, amid this setting, God's promise was clear: those who wait upon the Lord will find renewed strength. The invitation was not merely from turmoil to survival but from survival to triumph.
The prophet Isaiah speaks to a nation weary in desperation, reminding them that God, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not grow faint or weary. In their darkest hour, they are reassured of God's capabilities to empower and cause them to soar like eagles.
Let us focus on two key words from Isaiah 40:31.
### Verse 1 & The Possibility within Adversity
The opening line, "Woke up in the shadow of a fight," mirrors the reality of spiritual warfare. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against... the rulers of darkness." Yet, through faith, adversity becomes opportunity. The stanza proclaims rising strength and clarity in chaotic circumstances, resonating with Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
### Chorus & The Proclamation of Freedom
"Rise and roar, louder than before" is a call to not just survive but thrive, shaking the spiritual ground as seen in Acts 16:26 when Paul and Silas sang hymns in prison, causing an earthquake that set them free. Declaring "No chains, no walls, no doubt anymore" is to step into victory that Christ has secured, as affirmed in 2 Corinthians 3:17: "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."
### Verse 2 & The Testimony of Transformation
The mirror reflecting "a face I used to know" signifies identity renewed in Christ. As Romans 12:2 implores, we are transformed by the renewing of our minds, and our scars become testimonies. Revelation 12:11 states, "They overcame... by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony." Here, scars become proof of resilience and divine sustenance rather than defeat.
### Prechorus & The Defiance to Earth's Constraints
Assured in purpose, "I won’t back down no matter the climb" reinforces that the believer is not governed by time but divine timing. Like Joshua, who commanded the sun to stand still, we are assured that God sets the pace when we rise in faith.
### Verse 3 & The Conversion of Resistance to Strength
"They said stop dreaming it’s too far to go..." reflects the world's limitation, yet each "no" becomes ammunition to fulfill God's vision. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us that faith is the assurance of things hoped for, transcending tangible evidence. Our paths, although cracked, become opportunities for God to show Himself strong.
1. Proclaim the Word: Speak life and overcome fear by declaring what God’s Word says about your identity and victory in Christ. Let Isaiah 40:31 be a foundation of your proclamations.
2. Engage in Daily Communion with God: Develop an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit, allowing His power to strengthen and guide you through life's battles.
3. Embrace Your Testimony: Understand that your scars are stories of God’s faithfulness. Share them to encourage others and reinforce the body of Christ.
4. Break Barriers: Identify areas of doubt or bondage in your life and actively declare freedom and purpose through prayer and the Word of God, knowing that "He whom the Son sets free is free indeed" (John 8:36).
Proclamation: "I will rise and roar with the strength of the Lord. I will wait on Him, renew my strength, and mount up like the eagle. In Christ, I have no chains, no walls, and no doubt; I have freedom, strength, and victory."
Prayer: Almighty God, I thank You for the victory and strength You have given me through Your Son. Empower me by Your Spirit to rise beyond my battles, to roar with Your truth, and to walk in the fullness of freedom You have provided. May my life be a reflection of Your power and presence. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
